Virtual Training – Trauma Informed Care: Moving from Awareness to Action

Trauma-informed care is more than understanding trauma. It is about recognizing how trauma can shape a person’s experience of healthcare and translating that understanding into the way care is delivered, documented, designed, and led.

In this session, Susie Branagan, BSN, RN, will move beyond trauma awareness to explore what trauma-informed care looks like in everyday healthcare practice and organizational culture. Participants will examine how trauma may present in both patients and healthcare professionals, how common healthcare interactions and systems can unintentionally contribute to distress or re-traumatization, and how principles such as safety, trust, choice, collaboration, and empowerment can be incorporated into clinical care, communication, workflow, policy, and leadership.

Through practical examples and case-based discussion, participants will leave with strategies they can apply within their own roles and organizations to help create safer, more responsive healthcare environments.
